GRACE NOTES is a unique compilation of music mostly of the Baroque and Classical period, specifically chosen to provide hope, comfort and spiritual healing, in a time of personal and national crisis. Featured artist is MARY JANE NEWMAN, whose many talents as conductor, harpsichord and organ soloist, and as record producer are widely recognized in the U.S. and Europe.

Ms. Newman has been a volunteer for Making Headway for many years, sharing her gift of music with children awaiting surgery, and during their hospital stays. This is how Mary Jane Newman describes her involvement with Making Headway, and the circumstances that created this extraordinary CD:

"For a number of years, my friend Maya Manley and I have been talking together about a musical project inspired by the extraordinary pursuit of goodness-what Jews refer to as a Mitzvah-to which Making Headway Foundation is dedicated. I met Maya more than ten years ago. She and her husband Edward have devoted their lives and resources to children suffering from brain and spinal cord tumors and to their families. This is an endeavor of heart, mind and spirit. It is the most "holy" work I have ever experienced.

If you believe in such things, our coming together was planned from the beginning of time! Maya had put out the word that she needed volunteers to call the families of the children whom the foundation serves to remind them of the upcoming circus performance in Manhattan. This is both an annual fundraising event and a wondrous day of fun for the children. I showed up to make calls.

That miraculous evening was the beginning of a friendship that has in many ways changed my life. It has reminded me often of my very blessed life, of the benefits which talent can bestow on others and of true commitment to something of inestimable worth. I have spent many days with Maya over these years. We have, together, played with, sung with, laughed with and held hands with many children. Each is precious beyond any words. Maya has been my teacher. She has broadened my vision, widened my heart and enlightened my spirit. She has made me an infinitely better artist for all of that. This CD is a reflection of that journey. It is an archival document. It is work that comes from different points, encompassing the same timeline as the one Maya and I have traveled together. Some of the tracks are from projects done as far back as five years ago. Some are released for the first time on this disc. It is all music of the soul, formed by a window that was thrown open by Maya and "her children." I hope you hear that as you listen. I hope it touches your spirit, heals you and gives you hope, for that is its legacy."

ABOUT MAKING HEADWAY: Founded in 1996, Making Headway has focused its efforts on establishing a continuous program of complementary care and human support for families of children with brain and spinal cord tumors and other serious neurological illnesses.

Once a brain or spinal cord tumor is diagnosed, the entire family feels the devastating effect of an uncertain future. Each member-the child, the siblings and each parent-needs a special kind of care and support. The programs and support services provided by Making Headway begin at diagnosis and remain through hospital stays. Continuing support is always available for each family member as the child returns home and reenters school life.

The foundation has been, and continues to be supported by a wide range of corporations, individual donors, artists and public figures.

ABOUT THE FUNDRAISER: Making Headway will make the CD available as a premium for individual donations to the Foundation. Additionally, a portion of the profits from the national retail release of the CD will be donated to the Foundation.
