SAUDOBRA is a Piano Solo album initially conceived during a period of time that I lived abroad my home country. Saudobra is the short for the Portuguese sentence "Saudade do Brasil", that can be roughly translated as: Longing Brazil. No matter how comfortable is the environment we are living as foreigners, sooner or later we miss our cultural roots. Nevertheless, this moment also turned to be very fecund for my musicality that sprouted into several songs that I composed and kept doing so since then. As I've realized, music is truly a powerful and universal language that can be used to communicate emotions in a profound and intense way.
I decided to make Saudobra in the Piano Solo style in order to keep the introspection of my musical discourse so I could permeate in the interpretations all the lyricism that I've initially conveyed in each one of the songs.
All songs of Saudobra were meant to be simple and direct. Each one brings its unique emotional message. Similar to a Haiku (the Japanese verse form), every song aims to express in simple musical form a particular state of mind and spirit.
Saudobra has 24 tracks, in a total playing time over 77 minutes. Below I briefly introduce each song. I do hope you enjoy this album as it was made with the primarily purpose of being touching and moving for their listeners.

Cheers,

Tuti Fornari - 2005 - Brazil

1. A Lua e a Nuvem (The Moon and the Cloud)
This composition is a typical "Seresta" inspired during a full moon night with sparse clouds in the sky. As the clouds were covering the moon, a metaphor came to me: doesn't it look like as vaporous clothes were dressing and undressing a steady goddess?
(Time: 3:31s. ISRC: BRDHD0500010)

2. Agreste (Wasteland)
This "Baião" is inspired in the migration of people out of poor wastelands to try to get a better quality of life.
(Time: 3:57s. ISRC: BRDHD0500011)

3. Choro da União (Reunion Choro)
This "Choro", a cheerful Brazilian rhythm, is dedicated to all non-Brazilian musicians, who take their time to learn and study the richness of Brazilian music.
(Time: 2:28s. ISRC: BRDHD0500012)

4. De Momento (At the moment)
This swing is dedicated to the great jazz pianists, as, for me, they were such a great source of learning and inspiration.
(Time: 3:04s. ISRC: BRDHD0500013)

5. Decoração (Decoration)
This slow waltz talks about the importance of always listening to our "heart".
(Time: 3:04s. ISRC: BRDHD0500014)

6. Deixa Quieto (Never mind)
As a pop song, it dissertates about the following theme: it is crucial to unleash ourselves from bad thoughts and bitter feelings.
(Time: 3:15s. ISRC: BRDHD0500015)

7. Doce de Caqui (Kaki candy)
Kaki is a delicious fruit, sweet and tasteful but it has to be perfectly ripped to be consumed or it may turn to be a very unpleasant experience. This song is inspired on how everything in life has its right time and its right season.
(Time: 3:47s. ISRC: BRDHD0500016)

8. Hispânica (Hispanic)
This cheerful 7/8 beat composition came suddenly to me one night, where I named as "hispânica" as it definitely has this particular flavor.
(Time: 2:28s. ISRC: BRDHD0500017)

9. Instante de Delicadeza (A delicate moment)
This 5/4 beat composition came first in the form of the Brazilian rhythm "Jequibau", but later it turned to get its own style. It talks about how sometimes subtle changes make great differences.
(Time: 3:34s. ISRC: BRDHD0500018)

10. Melindre (Prudery)
This prudish "Samba" has an easy harmony, some weird melody lines and subtle rhythmic changes.
( Time: 2:40s. ISRC: BRDHD0500019)

11. Mesmo Lugar (Same Place)
This ballad is inspired in the saying: "no matter where we go, we always bring our backs with us".
(Time: 3:51s. ISRC: BRDHD0500020)

12. Natália (Natalie)
This ballad was composed for a theatre play that talks about Natalie, a teenager girl whose father suddenly passes away. In dealing with the mourning and flashbacks, she rediscovers him and reunites with his remembrance.
(Time: 4:38s. ISRC: BRDHD0500021)

13. Nossos Nós (Knots)
This "Bolero" talks about the period of time that a couple usually undergoes when they start living together, until they know and accept each other, so they can live in harmony.
(Time: 2:43s. ISRC: BRDHD0500022)

14. Prematura (Premature)
This odd "Samba" was inspired during a jam session of great but sloppy musicians.
(Time: 2:30s. ISRC: BRDHD0500023)

15. Querubim (Cherubim)
This "Xote" talks about a simple man asking a spiritual being about his doubts in life.
(Time: 2:57s. ISRC: BRDHD0500024)

16. Regalo (Gift)
It may be hard to find similarities, but this cheerful composition was firstly inspired in the vigorous first movement of Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata.
(Time: 2:19s. ISRC: BRDHD0500025)

17. SAUDOBRA
This songs was composed during my time abroad Brazil, in the moment when the yearning to go back took great proportions and I realize for the first time that I had feelings for my home country that I hadn't detected before. I named the album after this song because I consider this as a turning point where I rediscovered my compositional vein and the emotions in music turned to be more important for me than its technique or void complexity.
(Time: 4:52s. ISRC: BRDHD0500026)

18. Sun Shy
A shy but sunny in mood musician inspired me this song, that has this kind of melodic shyness in the beginning but soars at the end.
(Time: 3:25s. ISRC: BRDHD0500027)

19. Sem Querer (No intent)
This song divagates about trusting the wisdom of life, as it provides us with what we need to go through in any given moment.
(Time: 2:05s. ISRC: BRDHD0500028)

20. Antes de Você (Before You)
A love declaration that I received inspired me to this song.
(Time: 2:26s. ISRC: BRDHD0500029)

21. Canção da Despedida (Farwell song)
As I was writing this song, a friend of mine called me to inform that his mother had just passed away. I then decide to dedicate it to her, "Mrs. Margarida".
(Time: 3:19s. ISRC: BRDHD0500030)

22. Sustentando Opinião (Sticking to a point)
This ballad is inspired in the thoughts of sticking to an oppinion and persistently believing in it, without, however, fall into the blindness of stubbornness.
(Time: 3:24s. ISRC: BRDHD0500031)

23. Ventilador (Fan)
A song (weirdly enough) inspired by an appliance; a fan. As I was practicing the piano, my eyes paused on a fan, at the roof, moving back and forth. The song's groove came firstly out of this slow and steady movement, to then be shaped into its own swing.
(Time: 3:20s. ISRC: BRDHD0500032)

24. Zebu
A Zebu bull figure was the inspiration for this song, where the melody is most of the time in the piano's left hand, where the lower pitch keys are located. It brings a different musical texture, similar to a bass solo, but with the pianistic dynamic.
(Time: 2:48s. ISRC: BRDHD0500033)
