softEar melodious.contemporary As the title of the CD suggests, this softEar-project aims to provide melodious contemporary music. The composer Rune Sor-Reime emphasizes the melodious character of his works. This album is an invitation to a musical landscape of melodies and rhythms with references to classical music, jazz and ballads. Half of the pieces are modern "lieder", -poems set to music. These songs are interpreted authentically and directly by the tenor Scott B. Campbell, known from the vocal quartet «Quattro Stagioni». Some of the melodies have a traditional structure with repeating verses, but most of them have a dynamic evolution to match the development of the poem. Highlights from the album include: Song of Myself with lyrics from Walt Whitmans original 1855 edition of The Leaves of Grass. The Tourist from Syracuse with lyrics by the American poet Donald Justice. Reading Gaol with lyrics from part one of Oscar Wilde's well-known poem. So what does it sound like? The music is inspired by artists/composers like Jack Bruce, Carla Bley, Robert Wyatt, Henry Cow, the Soft Machine and some more. All the music is composed, arranged and programmed by Rune Sor-Reime.
