Passionate, inspired, and dynamically rich, Opus 1-6 pays homage to the captivating music of Debussy, Ravel, Scriabin, and Satie. Composer/performer Perez improvises each work in one evocative take. Classically trained with a master's degree in composition, Perez describes his piano playing as "spontaneous emotional composition."

Through the experimentation of contemporary compositional techniques, such as set theory and combinatorial mathematics, Perez blends classical forms, romantic melodies, and avante garde harmonies to produce a structured, yet free musical fabric.

Opus 1-6 was composed as a musical illustration of Perez's theatrical play, L.W. Smith -- which tells the story of a young, deaf boy who communicates by playing the piano. The boy spends his life alone, in silence until he meets a female poet who becomes his muse.

The mood of Opus 1-6 takes the listener on an introspective journey that examines the confines of one's innermost feelings.
