All your preconceptions about the sound of a trio will be changed forever by the power and diversity of 3D. A tight, bright, infectious blend of island rhythms, contemporary jazz and soul. Very accomplished, very musical...a world-music hybrid of salsa, soca, gospel and R & B...3D draws from this multitude of influences to create a cohesive musical whole. This group of top-flight musicians perform their original music and interpretations of familiar songs in a wide variety of styles. The musicians in this trio have performed with Kid Creole and the Coconuts, West Indian Day Carnival, NJ Mass Choir, Cab Calloway, Michael Urbaniack, The Drifters, Phil Keaggy, Jordan Rudess, John Abercrombie, Harry Belafonte, Unlimited Touch, Chaka Kahn and many other popular artists. In addition, the members of 3D have recorded for Woody Allen, Celine Dion and Sony Records. This cd features over 1 hour of great songs!!!!!!! Reviewed by: Wes Gillespie for www.thejazzsite.net This band is definitely a breath of fresh air which pack a powerful punch and a variety of musical styles from R & B to Latin, to Blues, Salsa and Gospel. However the musicians are no strangers to center stage and they have performed with artists such as Kid Creole, Michael Urbaniack, The Drifters and Chaka Khan as well as penning songs for Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. The album has many colors from the bluesy 'Delta' and 'Louisiana 'with Chris Amelar on slide bottleneck guitar, the Larry Carlton 'Hill Street Blues' style tearjerker 'Searching for you' to the opening mid-paced 'Bumsie man' and 'Rocking chair' which could be right out of a Casiopea or Lee Ritenour set. The great thing about this album is that it is a strong 15 track set where the energy levels never drop. Indeed on the salsa 'Margarita / Bomboleo' the acoustic lead guitar is right out of an Al di Meola idiom whilst 'Walkin' home'and 'Guanto Rico' might have been conceived on a warm summers day on a south sea island with the Caribbean Jazz Project invited for lunch. The reggae cut 'When love comes my way' is a tribute to the wonderful and varying styles in this remarkable album which has a gospel trio of cuts on the aptly named 'Born again', 'God is on your side' and 'The spirit is with you' and features some hard hitting organ grinds of the Jimmy Smith ilk to the uplifting pace of Mahalia Jackson. 'The spirit is with you' is the album's killer cut and another Larry Carlton type melodic excursion which send shivers up the writer's spine . The closing melody 'Come li en meh bed' is a fitting finale with a Caribbean happy uptempo flavor with steel pans and loads of percussion. This is an album which not only represents great value for money but highlights excellent musicians and original tunes. Check out the artist's website: http://www.hear3dmusic.com Track List: 1.
