In a land populated by guitar slinger fronted bands, you have to be pretty special to stand out.

Taking a Texas style approach, Joe Vicino, John Dunn and Chris Anstiss cover the Blues in a stand-out way.

On their newest, "Road Scars", they show the results of experience, roadwork, and the evolution of their band, now working as a power trio with visitors.

They lay down a ribbon of macadam wide as wailing guitar, pounding bass and syncopated power stroke drumming can create.

Vicino is a fluid drive automatic guitar monster. He can do Delta acoustic, Chicago electric, and Austin Demolition without breaking a sweat. His pipes are as smooth and soulfull as Delbert McClinton's.

Phrasing and tone are right down the center double yellow.

Intense and on the money.

He swings from BBKing to Freddie King.

Dunn's bass is a Detroit Diesel on the road providing low down rumble, rhythmic throbbing excelsior whether he is backing or pulling into the forefront.

His cohort, Chris Anstiss goes one on one with the torque driving, gravel slinging skin pounding necessary to keep the road behemoth in the lane.

In the land of what they do from the raving power opener version of BB's "Sweet Little Angel" , S.R.V. tributary "Rum Boogie" with its B3 sound instrumental, nonstop movement of "Korina", slow and sensual "Josephine", hot & dripping "Big Legged Woman", down and dirty "Sugarman", a soulfull redux of Robin Trowers "Too Rolling Stoned" and the jazzy acoustic closer "Me and My Crazy Self".

Take a road trip through the Blues and watch out for "Road Scars" as Joe Vicino and the Smokedaddys tear it down the highway.
