The BIG DADDY BAND 1973 The BIG DADDY Band was an interesting group. In the early 70's the band played local bars and parties. They even played a canceled rock fest in Poynette, WI. This tape was recorded in Greg Shaves farmhouse in Brandon, WI. The tape floated around in boxes for over 28 years. Out of the few recordings made I feel these capture the raw and frenzied action of the band. This tape was never recorded to be heard by anyone other than the band members however, in the interest of all who might, or might not get a kick out of it, here it is....DLW 7/11/2000 Guitar-David Witter Bass-Jeff Kaftanski Drums-Doug Stanul Vocals-Greg Schave On the cover- In 1971 there was another rock fest located near Poynette, WI. At the same location it was held the previous year. Determined to get our band booked for the event, Greg and I drove to Milwaukee with some tapes and posters, met with the producers, and where told we could play if they had a spot. They gave us 5 free backstage passes, and where told we should park behind the stage and wait for a call to perform. Feeling rather intimidated at the time, we opened the fence and drove back into the general festival area. That night, the police shut the whole thing down and kicked out all the other bands. At about 2:00 am the crowd burnt down the stage. In the morning we found ourselves the ONLY rock band at a rock festival! Some bikers told us we might want to consider playing, or else. They had some generators, so we set up, played, had a great time. We will never forget it. It was all just a memory for years until a friend called telling me he came upon a picture of our band. It was in a text book used for a communication corse at MATC. (Photo by Roger Turner) The student was to describe what was happening in the picture. So, that's the story on the picture I'm using for the cover of this cd. From left to right, Mark Hatzinger, Doug Stanul, David Witter, and Jeff Kaftansky. Greg Shave was there singing but was not in the picture. Track List: 1. Helleiujah I Love Her So 2. Boogie Woogie 3. Stone Cold Crazy 4. Funky Blues/Doug Stanul drum solo 5. Homework 6.
