“With a raspy voice that sounds like he’s seen and done it all, if you like your Blues raw and dirty, then Alex Gomez is just the ticket”. [Phase 9]

At first, Houston, Texas neo-bluesman Alex Gomez may sound like he’s seen and done it all, yet soon enough he starts sounding like he wants to see and do more. Testifying like a man who’s sold his soul, his every world-weary, crudely aggressive and brutally real syllable packs a wallop.

Amid raunchy, spell-binding electric slide guitar and a pulsating drum throb, Alex Gomez resurrects the venerable Delta/Chicago genre with ruthless irreverence. Its specter haunts a purgatory crawling with teen-aged strippers, avaricious call girls, strung-out junkies and other fallen angels. Careless love, sordid sex, and intemperate substance abuse fuel a white-knuckle roller coaster ride deep into the heart of the post-modern blues experience.

Exceeding its sum, Alex Gomez’ whisky-tinged vocal and fuzzy guitar ride a primal thud with the abandon of lovers in heat. Conjuring the sheer intensity of a South Texas juke joint on a Saturday night, Alex Gomez wrenches a rusty nail off its front porch and hammers it back down hard, informing the Roots Blues with exhilarating, contemporary sensibility.

Alex Gomez surfaced "...preachin' and teachin' the blues..." [New Times] hosting the nationally-televised Blues Slide Guitar Workshop [PBS]. The "...tuneful treasure chest..." [TV Guide] spun off companion Alex Gomez instructional products, including retail "Top Seller" Tape & Slide [American Music Supply].

After performing industry showcase Blues Stock, the "...slide maestro..." [Guitar Player] released his recording debut. Winning international kudos, Slidin’ Down the Delta drew comparisons to down-home blues shaman R.L. Burnside [Living Blues].

Real Blues magazine declared subsequent Always Never "...the hottest thing to happen to Boogie Blues in 30 years". “It's the kind of music you want to listen to when you plan to get drunk. Hard enough to help you get the shots down but smooth enough to keep your head from pounding” [Rikk’s Reviews]. Moreover, one critic declared Always Never “Masterful stuff and highly recommended” [Mohair Sweets].

On Metallic Blue Electric, Alex Gomez hones the "...deep Black Keys groove..." [High Times] of its predecessors. Or, more succinctly, “...for Metallic Blue Electric, Alex Gomez has boiled away every last drop of sentimental attachment to luxury or comfort. The album is a hard-coiled spring of relentless and angry pain” [Whisperin’ & Hollerin’].

Alex Gomez may not exactly be the Devil’s Music, but it’s surely what he listens to.
