CHEF CHRIS AND HIS NAIROBI TRIO... -WINNERS OF THE 2001 DETROIT BATTLE OF THE BLUES BANDS. -WINNERS OF THE 2002 INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE. -NAMED BY BILLBOARD MAGAZINE AS ONE OF SIX FINALISTS OUT OF 1200 ENTRIES TO COMPETE AT DISC MAKERS INDEPENDENT MUSIC WORLD SERIES SOUTHEAST REGIONAL IN NASHVILLE TN. Named after a band donned in gorilla suits that backed up 50's comedian Ernie Kovacs. Chef Chris and his Nairobi Trio serve up a twisted and sonically adventuresome take on the blues. It's carefully contrived spontaneous left of center story telling, delivered in spooky and sinister undertones. While rooted in the blues, Chef Chris and his Nairobi Trio draw on their musical influences to create their own style of blues. For instance they sentenced Johnny Cash's 60's country classic, "Folsom Prison Blues" to hard time in the funk cell. The Rolling Stones, "Sympathy for the Devil" doesn't make you feel sympathetic toward the Devil, it makes you want to have a cocktail with him. The Chef's originals mostly deal with his real life adventures: If you've ever had a car stolen or gone to jail, then you'll feel the Chef's pain in "Stolen Car Blues", and "You're going to jail and your car is too". For you women listeners who find the Chefs three hundred pounds of heavenly joy simply irresistible, he lets you know what kind of girl he's looking for in "Average Girl". Ever wanted a good recipe for gumbo? Chef Chris delivers with "Crawfish Gumbo". Not only will you have your recipe; you'll know the proper way to eat crawfish...EAT THE TAIL SUCK THE HEAD!! Joining Chef Chris in the group is Vinnie Dombroski A.K.A Vinnie D'Cobra (drums)Vinnie is a multi tasking Detroit musical legend. Best known as the front man in the rock group sponge, he also sings and plays guitar in his country-tinged band the Orbitsuns. Vinnie has also won numerous awards at the Detroit Music Awards including "Outstanding Rock/Pop songwriter 2003" and "Outstanding Country Music songwriter" 2002. Sir Tim Duvalier is the quirky guitar player. Never using a pick Tim plucks the strings on an array of guitars with reckless abandon often times leaving the pick guard and fret board stained with sweat and blood. He too is a multi tasking Detroit musical legend, for ten plus tears he played bass guitar in the award winning R&B band the Chisel Brothers. He is currently the lead guitarist in the Orbituns, and he too has won numerous Motor City Music Awards including "Outstanding Country Music Instrumentalist" two years in a row. Brother Bill Lewis plays bass, Bill spent years in the Nashville circuit backing up Dave Dudley and Pam Tillis before returning to the Motor City. Once back at home he quickly found work as bassist in Al Hills swinging piano driven boogie-woogie blues band the Love Butlers. Leading the way is the larger than life front man Chef Chris; a Chef Chris performance can be best described as a soulful juggernaut of biblical proportions no crowd can resist his 300 pounds of heavenly joy as he herks and jerks about the stage with beefy sophistication!
