Scottie Miller grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota studying piano at age 6. He was classically trained until age 13 when he began studying jazz with Peter Murray/McPhail School Of The Arts. In 1986 Scott went to Berklee College of Music where he studied privately with piano great, Craig Najjar. In 1988 Scottie moved from Boston back to his home town in Minneapolis, where he began writing, recording and performing live in the twin cities area. His noted work through the next 10 years includes: Touring with band’s Inspector, T-Minus Two, then Damon-Sicora, and The Sundogs. In 1998 Scottie joined forces with Big John Dickerson and Blue Chamber. He wrote and co-wrote songs on the 1999 CD release, “ARMS OF THE BLUES†(Cannonball Records), such as; “How Longâ€, When the Sun Goes Downâ€, and “When I’m Goneâ€. Produced by Jim Gaines. The band toured the USA and Europe including, Paris, Athens, Belgium, Budapest, Berlin, Switzerland. They headlined many top Jazz and Blues Festivals throughout the world. “ARMS OF THE BLUES†– Blue Chamber Featuring Big John Dickerson- Cannonball Records “ 2000 Blues Recording of the Year†– MINNESOTA MUSIC AWARDS “Top 10- Living Blues Radio Charts – October/November 2001â€. In 2001 Scottie started his own band; (Scottie Miller Band), with new members; Drummer Mark O’Day, Bassist, John Iden, and guitarist Paul Mayasich. With increasing press, festival appearances and radio airplay, the band continues to promote their three CD releases since 2002; “The Other Sideâ€; “Days Of Reckoningâ€, and the Scottie’s new solo release;“Livin’ Between The Black ‘n Whiteâ€. (A beautiful arrangement of Piano/Vocal solo’s in a dedication the Piano-Blues forefathers such as; Otis Spann, Roosevelt Sykes, and Amos Milburn. Co-produced by Dik Shopteau, and released inMarch 2006, this new solo CD is sure to garner much attention from the blues marketplace. In 2005 Scottie was blessed to have met the great late Johnnie Johnson. (The “Father of Rock ‘n Roll Pianoâ€), in St. Louis. After Johnnie listened to Scottie’s set he sat in with the band. A month later he passed away, but not without introducing him to the Bo Diddley band, with whom Scottie performed numerous dates in the US, as well as performing with the Johnnie Johnson tribute band. Blues forefathers such as Johnnie Johnson, Bo Diddley, Henry Townsend, Robert Lockwood Jr., are keeping a watchful eye on Scottie’s piano playing and songwriting.
