Avenue Elle was formed when two girls (Chrissie Engle and Alison Lumley) met at an acupuncture school in austin, texas. The girls discovered on their first day at school that they each shared a passion for writing and playing music. After going to open mikes together to play individually, they realized that hey, maybe they could try to work on material together (harmonies, guitars, mandolin, etc.). What a novel idea!! Anyway, Avenue Elle (which has now expanded to include Anthony Juneau on lead guitar) has just released a four-song ep, and has been lucky enough to work with some truly talented musicians (John Vogelsang, Daniel Jones, Janet Lee, Phillip Edwards) and a half-mad/half-genius producer (Lars Goransson). It's really hard to put their music into any one category since the girls (whose sounds are continually changing as individuals) have such different influences and styles. John Prine, for example, has played a huge part in Chrissie's musical development, and the Beatles in Alison's. oh well, somehow it just works...
