On Your Bond was picked as one of "The Best of INDEPENDENT RELEASES of 1997" by NY CD Blues VICTORY MUSIC Acoustic Music Review Magazine Volume 21 Number 11 November 1996 DAVE PLAEHN & JEFF HINO: ON YOUR BOND Plaehn is on harmonica and vocal while Hino is on National Steel Dobro and vocal carving out territory in classic country as in "Rollin' & Tumblin." But they get citified "Wild About My Lovin" with snappy vocals and good vocal -pedal steel backup. The work is precise, good drive and solid sense of both blues and jump style music. Most of the material is blues based with good interpretation of Lead Belly's "On A Monday, an urban shot at Blind Willie Johnson's "You're Gonna Need Somebody." Just the duo drives home Robert Johnson's "Dust My Broom" and "Come In My Kitchen" as well as Clark's "Look Over Yonder's Wall," where Plaehn works in the Sonny Terry style with Hino's accurate driving picking. They take the James classic "Shake Your Money Maker" to a more elemental down home feel. Bass and vocal backup group helps swing out Plaehn's own "Letter From My Baby." "Not Fade Away" is atypical Diddley beat tune. Acoustic blues lovers will be right at home with this driving delightful recording.
